MSU faces three-time Big Sky Champion Lumberjacks
BOZEMAN, Mont. (March 2, 2026) – Montana State opens an important weekend of men's tennis on Friday when the Bobcats host Big Sky leader Northern Arizona on Friday at 2:30 pm in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
The three-time defending Big Sky Champion Lumberjacks carry a 4-0 league record, 12-5 overall, against the Bobcats (5-10 overall, 1-2 Big Sky). NAU has won 17 consecutive league matches.
"NAU is a very good team," said MSU head coach Mateus Ceolin. "They've won the regular season championship for the last several seasons and they have a lot of talented players."
Northern Arizona's four league wins this season includes road wins over Sacramento State and Weber State. The Lumberjacks have dominated at the top two ladder spots this season, with Noa Tcherniack posting a 10-2 record at No. 1 singles and Jakub Jedrejczak owning a 10-1 mark at the second spot.
"They're very good in doubles," Ceolin said, and NAU backs that up with a 30-14 composite doubles mark. "We just want to go out and compete. We're playing on our home court and we need to use that to our advantage."
Friday's match is Montana State's first at home since February 1, when MSU beat Whitworth the day after topping Whitworth. Since then MSU has won two of its nine matches, including a league win at Idaho.
