Seidl Leads Bobcats After First Day of Diane Thomason Invitational

Bobcats finish Monday tied for sixth place, Seidl tied for 13th on individual leaderboard
BOZEMAN, Mont. --- The Montana State women's golf team finished the opening day of the Diane Thomason Invitational in a tie for sixth place as senior Norah Seidl led the team individually in a tie for 13th place after 36 holes of play.

The Bobcats carded rounds of 304 and 306 for a 36-hole of 610 and will head into Tuesday's within touching distance of Bradley (608) as Montana State seeks its third-straight top-five finish to open the season. Seidl finished the day 6-over 148 thanks to rounds of 70 and 78 on the par-71 course to cap off her day in a tie for 13th place. Ashleigh Wilson (153) finished her day tied for 28th place, Sailor Graham (154) is tied for 30th after two rounds, Lauren Nau carded a 155 to earn a share of 34th place, and Eva Heinz is in 69th place with a 36-hole score of 165.

"Tough two rounds today from our team," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "Norah had an outstanding first round, however. This course is definitely a challenge, but we need to make some putts and play better golf. Tomorrow they have another opportunity to tee it up, hit some fairways and greens, and drop some putts. I'm hopeful they will bring their best and compete hard."

Montana State finished its opening round in a tie for fourth place with a score of 20-over 304. Seidl led the Cats in the opening round with a 1-under 70 with bogey-free strings of six-straight holes to start and end her round. She birdied four times on holes 9, 12, 14 and 4 to finish the morning tied for second place individually. The Bobcats also counted a trio of 78s from Nau, Graham, and Wilson in the first round. Nau birdied on hole 6 and parred three-straight times on holes 13 to 15 to highlight her round. Graham eagled on hole 12 and carded five-straight bogey-free holes on Nos. 18 through 4, capped off by a birdie on hole 4. Wilson had two strings of three-straight bogey-free holes on Nos. 7-9 and 11-14, including a birdie on hole 8.

The Cats posted a second-round score of 306 to wrap up the day, with Wilson leading the way with a 4-over 75. The sophomore birdied four times in the afternoon on holes 8, 12, 15, and 3 and added a three-hole par-or-better stretch on holes 11 through 13. Graham counted a 76 after birdying three times and posting two stretches of three-straight bogey-free holes. Nau posted a 77, highlighted by five-straight bogey-free holes on Nos. 11 through, and Seidl counted a 78 behind an eagle on hole 9 and a birdie on hole 12.

The Bobcats (610) will head into Tuesday's final round 22 strokes back of Iowa (20-over 588) for the team lead, with Missouri State (2nd – 589), St. Thomas (3rd – 592), and Bowling Green (4th – 594) following close behind. Bradley (608) sits just two strokes ahead of the Bobcats for fifth place after 36 holes of play.

Bowling Green's Addison Kartusch (3-under 139) leads St. Thomas' Kathryn VanArragon (2-under 140) by one stroke after day one. Bowling Green's Avery Thompson sits in third at 2-over 144, St. Thomas' Nicole Reineke (3-over 145) is one stroke behind in fourth place, and Northern Illinois' Dakota Tallent and Iowa's Maura Peters are tied for fifth at 4-over 146.Â
