For the second straight game the Montana State women's basketball team rebounded from a poor shooting first half with an offensive outburst in the second stanza to post a 60-51 win over Weber State, Saturday night in Worthington Arena.
“I thought both teams played terrific defense in the first half,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “Our shot selection was out of character for us. We were shooting a lot of mid range jumpers and weren't being patient with the offense.”
Montana State (14-9, 8-1) shot 23 percent from the field in the opening period, while holding Weber State (5-15, 1-7) to just 21 percent.
WSU held a 20-18 advantage at intermission.
The Wildcats held the lead for the first three minutes of the second half before the Bobcats scored six unanswered points to take the lead for good at 31-26 lead for good following a Katie Bussey free throw with 15:07 remaining.
“We were much more patient in the second half and our shots started to fall,” Binford said. “I'm proud of the way we've stay composed coming out of the locker room in the last two games. We are finding a way to win.”
The Bobcats put up 48 second-half points, while shooting 52 percent from the field.
Like Thursday night, Bussey led the Bobcat attack in the second half scoring 13 of her game-high 19 points. Bussey also added seven rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Also in double-figures for MSU were Rachel Semansky 12 and Lyndi Seidensticker 10.
Semansky recorded her fourth double-double of the season with a team-best 13 rebounds.
Weber State was led in the loss by Caitlin Anderson with 18 points and three rebounds.
Coupled with Northern Colorado's loss at Portland State on Saturday afternoon, Montana State is back on top of the Big Sky Conference with an 8-1 league mark.
MSU will travel to Northern Colorado on Thursday for a showdown of the Big Sky's top two squads.
