The Montana State women's basketball team will play a pair of games this week. The Bobcats will host Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, Dec, 3 at 7 p.m., in Worthington Arena, and will make the trek up I-90 to Spokane on Sunday, Dec. 6 for a 3 p.m. (MST) tip at Gonzaga in the McCarthey Athletic Center.
CLASH OF THE TITANS:
MSU's Delany Junkermier was mired in a one-of-ten shooting slump entering Thursday's contest. That all changed as the Spokane product exploded for a career-high 18 points, including a seven-of-ten effort from the field and four 3-pointers, lifting the Bobcats to an 89-66 win over Cal State Fullerton in Worthington Arena. The 6-foot guard missed her first three-point attempt, but followed with a four-of-four effort from beyond the arc to give Montana State a 27-17 advantage after the opening period. The Bobcats built a 51-34 halftime cushion, shooting 57 percent from the field and connecting on 10-of-18 from long distance. Aside from Junkermier's 12 first-half points, MSU reserve Peyton Ferris also produced a dozen going five-of-five from the floor. MSU took its largest lead of the contest (84-57) in the fourth quarter on an Annika Lai basket. Ferris, a junior from Twin Bridges, finished with a game-high 19 points, going eight-of-nine from the field. Also in double-figures were Lindsay Stockton and Riley Nordgaard with 14 and 13 points respectively.
MONTANA STATE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Peyton Ferris played a major role in Montana State's three games last week. The Twin Bridges product came off the bench to record back-to-back double-doubles with 18 points and 11 rebounds against San Diego and 18 points and ten boards in MSU's win over Evansville. For the three games, Ferris averaged 15.7 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists, while shooting an impressive 67 (16-24) percent from the field and 88 (14-16) from the free throw line. She averaged 23 minutes of action coming off the bench. The 2014-15 Big Sky Conference Top Reserve is currently leading the Bobcats in scoring at 13.2 points per game and is second on the squad hauling down 7.0 rebounds per contest. For her efforts at Cal Poly she was named to the ShareSLO Holiday Classic All-Tournament team. After going 8-of-9 from the field against Cal State Fullerton, Ferris is ranked No. 6 in the nation in field-goal percentage shooting at a 67.3% clip.
