Jasmine Hommes opened the first quarter connecting on eight-of-eight from the field and finished with 23 points, while Riley Nordgaard added 16 points and 15 rebounds to lift Montana State to a 74-64 win over Portland State, Thursday night in Worthington Arena.
Hommes, a senior from Lynden, Wash., posted 16 of MSU's 23 points in the opening period as Montana State (16-5, 9-1) built a six-point cushion heading into the second period. The Bobcats took its largest lead of the half at 39-19 on a Lindsay Stockton layup at the 2:43 mark. MSU entered intermission with a 17-point advantage.

In the second half, Montana State built its largest lead of the contest at 68-46 with 9:03 remaining, before Portland State (3-17, 1-8) closed with an 18-6 run.
"We were able to get a lot of kids some minutes," Binford said. "Obviously, we're not happy with how we finished, and credit Portland State. They're a much improved team.
"We're going to have to be a lot sharper against the press on Saturday when Sacramento State comes to town," she added.
Nordgaard, a junior from Canby, Minn., registered her third double-double of the season. She also chipped in three assists and three steals, while converting three-of-four from three-point range. Her 15 rebounds were a career-high.
For the game, MSU shot 45 percent from the field, but were an icy 18 percent in the fourth quarter. The Bobcats also won the battle of the boards, out-rebounding the Vikings 47-37.
PSU was led by Cici West with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
MSU will host Sacramento State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
NOTES: Jasmine Hommes now has 1,302 career points and moves into 10th on MSU's all-time scoring list…Hannah Caudill dished out eight assists, her highest total in the last six games…MSU's 16-5 record over the first 21 games is the best since the 2002-03 squad posted a 17-4 mark to open the season…The 2002-03 is MSU's last regular-season championship team.
