ON A SERIES NOTE: Montana State is 31-11 in its all-time series with Sacramento State dating back to Jan. 24, 1997. The Bobcats have captured the last four meetings between the two Big Sky rivals.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME: The Cats saw the nation's second longest home court win streak snapped on Thursday night as Portland State handed MSU a 69-60 setback. MSU's 31-game home streak was second only to national power UConn (70). Before Thursday's game, Montana State's last loss in Worthington Arena was a 62-49 decision to San Diego on Nov. 24, 2015.
THE NITTY GRITTY: According to the Jan. 7, 2018 NCAA Nitty-Gritty rankings the Bobcats are currently ranked #210 in the country. The highest Big Sky Conference listing belongs to Northern Colorado at #45, followed by #170 Portland State, #172 Weber State, #176 Idaho, #179 Idaho State and #185 North Dakota. Ranked behind Montana State is #214 Eastern Washington, #239 Sacramento State, #258 Montana, #318 Northern Arizona and #326 Southern Utah. The Bobcats finished the 2016-17 season ranked #59 - its highest finish ever.
QUICK TIP: In its two games last weekend at Northern Colorado and North Dakota, the Bobcats shot 42.4 percent from the field. They went 31.8 percent from the floor in the first half, and heated up to 53 percent in the second stanza.
THE SACRAMENTO STATE SCOUTING REPORT: Sacramento State came out firing in the second half, outscoring Montana 34-23 after halftime. It wasn't enough to overcome a 20-point halftime deficit, however, as the Hornets fell 68-59 in Missoula on Thursday night. Sacramento State was quiet early, managing just eight points in the first quarter. They started to find their shot in the second quarter, putting up 17 points, but went into the half trailing 45-25, their second largest half-time deficit this season. The second half was a different story as the Hornets turned on their full-court press and shut down the Montana offense. The Lady Griz scored 23 after the break. Sacramento State scored 34 in the second half, thanks in big part to Tiara Scott, who put up 13 points in the second half. She went just 3-of-6 from the floor, but made two three-pointers while going 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Overall, she led the team with 17 points while collecting two steals and two assists. Maranne Johnson also broke double-digits, scoring 13 points.
