Montana State volleyball opens its 2025 slate hosting the EVEN Hotel Bobcat Invite this weekend in Shroyer Gym.

Montana State volleyball opens its 2025 slate hosting the EVEN Hotel Bobcat Invite this weekend in Shroyer Gym. The Bobcats open tournament play Friday, Aug. 29 against Prairie View A&M at 7 p.m. MSU faces South Dakota on Saturday at 5 p.m., and Oregon, Sunday, at 2 p.m. to conclude tournament play. Non-MSU matches include South Dakota vs. Oregon, Friday (4 p.m.), Oregon vs. Prairie View A&M, Saturday (2 p.m.), and Prairie View A&M vs. South Dakota, Sunday, (11 a.m.).
SEASON OPENERS:
Since the 1980 campaign the Bobcats are 25-20 all-time in season openers. Last fall, Washington handed MSU a 3-1 setback in the Blackridge Invite, before rebounding with a 3-1 victory over Middle Tennessee State. Under the direction of third-year head coach Matt Houk, the Bobcats are 1-1 in season-openers. Houk led the Bobcats to a 3-2 win over Pac-12 rival Oregon State on Aug. 25, 2023.
WELCOME BACK:
Matt Houk welcomes back twelve players that were in the practice gym spring semester. Included in the twelve are seven letterwinners, two returning starters (Camryn Greenwald, Madilyn Siebler) plus All-Big Sky Conference libero Lauren Lindseth. Freshmen Teagan Jaynes and Elli Tufto both have a spring season under their respective wings after graduating early and joining the Bobcats in January. Freshman-redshirt Makenzie Jackson is back from injury and will look to contribute on the right-side. Other incoming freshmen include Lauren Schloe (MB), Maggie Rhew (S/DS), Alice Steman (MB), and Nicolette Noble (L/DS).
LINDSETH EARNS PRESEASON KUDOS:
Montana State senior libero Lauren Lindseth was named to the All-Big Sky Conference Preseason Volleyball team, the league office announced last week. The native of Great Falls is a four-year starter for the Bobcats and led the Big Sky averaging 4.80 digs per set in conference matches, last fall. A graduate of CMR, Lindseth is fifth on MSU's all-time career digs chart with 1,477 saves. She recorded a career-high 34 digs at St. Thomas (MN) in 2023. Lindseth will look to become just the second player in Bobcat history to hit the 2,000- dig mark this fall.
BOBCAT NOTEBOOK:
* Senior Madilyn Siebler returns as MSU's top kills leader from last season. The native of Omaha, Neb., paced MSU with 291 kills, averaging 2.60 kills per contest.
* Senior Lauren Lindseth notched 508 digs last season, averaging 4.54 per contest. Lindseth's 508 digs were the fourth most recorded in a single-season in Bobcat history.
* Senior Camryn Greenwald notched a .221 attack mark last season, the best among the 2025 returners. The Woodbury, Minn., product averaged 1.69 kills las fall, and committed just 68 errors on 503 swings.
* Madilyn Siebler and Lauren Lindseth return as MSU's top servers. Last season, Siebler recorded 32 service aces, while Lindseth chipped in 29 aces.
* Junior Joelie Spelts and senior Camryn Greenwald return as Montana State's top blockers. Spelts, from Gillette, Wyo., totaled 88 blocks last fall, averaging .87 bps. Greenwald logged 85 blocks, averaging .80 bps.
* Montana State die hards will see a new face at the setting position this season as a pair of freshmen will quarterback the club. Teagan Jaynes, who joined the Bobcats for spring semester, will get the starting nod. Jaynes was a two-time all-state selection at Northfield High School in Northfield, Minn. Jaynes was also named to the 2024 Minneapolis StarTribune All-Metro team. Jaynes will be backed-up by Maggie Rhew, a three-time First Team All-Marmonte League pick at Oaks Christian High School in California.
