Cats set to compete on Tuesday and Wednesday in ‘Aiea, Hawaii
BOZEMAN, Mont. --- The Montana State women's golf team is set for its third tournament of the spring, competing in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in 'Aiea, Hawaii, starting on Tuesday and continuing through Wednesday.
The 54-hole tournament will be held at the par-72, 6,246-yard Pearl at Kalauao, with two rounds set for Tuesday and the final 18 holes to follow on Wednesday. Both days will tee off in a 12 p.m. MT shotgun start.
"This is a good field on a new golf course," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "The conditions will be wet this week, but we need to fight through that and focus on one shot at a time. We have had three great weeks of indoor practice, working hard on carry yardages and seeing putts go in over and over. With these wet conditions it will level the playing field some, and with the grittiness of our players, I am hoping that plays to our favor. The 'no-quit' attitude will need to be strong, as will the 'be where your feet are' discipline. Anyone we are competing is an opportunity for us to keeping working toward our team goals. We will celebrate the little wins we have throughout the season no matter the weather. Excited to see how these ladies bring their best to the rest of spring season. It's time to compete no matter the circumstances."
Thirteen teams are set to tee off in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on Tuesday, including a trio of nationally-ranked teams and three Big Sky competitors. No. 2 USC leads the field while No. 13 North Carolina and No. 23 Arizona State also enter the tournament ranked in the top 25 nationally. Northern Colorado and Sacramento State will join the Bobcats in representing the Big Sky Conference at the tournament. California Baptist, Hawaii, Hawaii Pacific, Louisiana Monroe, New Mexico, New Mexico State, and Texas State will round out the field.
