Conference tournament tees off on Monday and continues through Wednesday
BOZEMAN, Mont. --- With 10 regular-season tournaments in the rear-view mirror, the Montana State women's golf team begins its postseason at the Big Sky Championship at the Wigwam Golf Club Blue Course starting on Monday and continuing through Wednesday.
The tournament will consist of 54 holes of stroke play, including 18 on each day, and will begin with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. MDT/6:30 a.m. MST each day. The Bobcats' round-one tee times are set for every 10 minutes between 9:40 a.m. MDT and 10:20 a.m. MDT on Monday as they look to secure a top-four result for the fourth-straight season.
"It's go-time. This is the one we have been preparing for since August," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "The course will play much differently than it did three weeks ago due to the dried-out conditions and firmness of the greens. Our game plan will be set to the current conditions, and we will really need to be focused on our landing areas. It's super exciting to have five players recognized for conference honors. Those are earned, not given. The five need to lock in for 18 holes for three rounds. The Big Sky Championship is the tournament. It's time, and I am confident they will be ready."
Montana State will compete for the team and individual conference titles against the other nine Big Sky Conference programs. The Cats enter the postseason ranked third in the most recent Division I Rankings, as compiled by Scoreboard by Clippd. Sacramento State enters as the tournament favorite, ranking 75th in the country, while Northern Arizona follows close behind in 79th. Montana State comes in at No. 3 in the Big Sky and No. 107 in Division I golf as they seek another strong tournament result. The remaining seven teams set to compete in Litchfield Park, Ariz., in order of national ranking, include Northern Colorado, Weber State, Idaho, Portland State, Eastern Washington, Idaho State, and Montana.
The Bobcats concluded their regular season with a runner-up result at the Bobcat Desert Classic in Goodyear, Ariz., on April 13-15. Montana State posted a 54-hole score of 12-over 876 to secure their sixth top-three team finish of the season in nine stroke-play tournaments. Eva Heinz was Montana State's individual leader, carding a 2-over 218 to earn her third top-10 finish of the season with a ninth-place result. Four Bobcats finished in the top 20 as Lauren Greeny tied for 12th (222) and Ashleigh Wilson and Norah Seidl tied for 19th (222).
Montana State's lineup will consist of Greeny, Seidl, Heinz, Wilson, and defending Big Sky Conference individual champion Maddie Montoya. Sailor Graham will serve as an alternate for the duration of the tournament.
Montana State is seeking its second Big Sky Conference team title in program history, previously winning the title in 1995. The Bobcats finished third as a team in last year's tournament with a score of 17-over 869 on the par-71 Wigwam Blue Course, marking their third-straight top-four result and second top-three finish in three seasons. Montana State emerged from last season's tournament with its first individual regional berth in program history, with Maddie Montoya taking home medalist honors at 4-under 209 to punch her ticket to the NCAA Gold Canyon Regional. One or more Bobcats have finished in the top 10 individually at the Big Sky Championship in three-consecutive seasons, with two Cats cracking the top 10 in two of the last three years. Greeny tied for fourth place during the 2023 and 2025 tournaments and will look to add another strong result in the final conference tournament of her storied Bobcat career.
The Bobcats are paired with Northern Colorado and Northern Arizona for Monday's first round and will tee off from hole 1 in 10-minute intervals between 9:40 a.m. MDT and 10:20 a.m. MDT. Live scoring will be available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
