Bobcats Host UM Western, Tuesday Night

The Montana State women’s basketball team will host Frontier Conference foe University of Montana Western, Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. in Worthington Arena in its first contest since finishing finals last week.

The Montana State women's basketball team will host Frontier Conference foe University of Montana Western, Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. in Worthington Arena in its first contest since finishing finals last week. The Bobcats will then meet Mountain West Conference opponent University of Wyoming, Saturday, Dec. 19 at 5 p.m. in the Arena Auditorium in Laramie. MSU will close out its non-conference slate hosting Carroll College on Monday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. in Worthington Arena, prior to the team taking its Christmas break.
THE LAST TIME OUT:
Gonzaga used a late third quarter spurt and back-to-back three-pointers in the fourth quarter to pull away and notch a 65-52 win over Montana State, Sunday, Dec. 6 at McCarthey Center. MSU was in the game for much of the contest as a Peyton Ferris 3-pointer pulled the Bobcats to within 30-29 at the 5:28 mark of the third quarter, but the Zags used a triple and two free throws in the final 27-seconds to take a nine-point lead into the final quarter. MSU closed to within 46-41 on a Lindsay Stockton layup at 6:31, before the Zags connected on back-to-back treys to put the game away. Ferris led MSU with 14 points, while Riley Nordgaard and Jasmine Hommes added 11 points, apiece. Spokane natives Stockton and Hannah Caudill also guided the Bobcats as Stockton ended with six points and five assists and Caudill with a game-high seven assists.
MONTANA STATE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Peyton Ferris came off the bench last week to average 16.5 points and five rebounds per game as the Bobcats defeated Cal State Fullerton, before falling at Gonzaga on Sunday. Against the Titans, the Twin Bridges product went eight-of-nine from the floor and was perfect from the line, en route to a game-high 19 points. She also hauled down four rebounds, had two assists and one steal. Against Gonzaga, who entered the game ranked No. 1 in the College Insider Mid Major Top 25, Ferris posted 14 points on five-of-nine from the field. In addition, she added six rebounds, an assist, a steal and a blocked shot. For the two games, she shot a hefty 72.2 percent (13-18) from the field, 75 percent (3-4) from long distance and was four-of-four from the field. Her overall 65.6 percent field-goal percentage ranks her fifth in the nation, while her 88.9 percent free throw percentage is 23rd in the country.
