Bobcats Open Home Season with Griz

“I am excited for our fans and support staff that we get to play the Griz home and away this year,” said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. “It is great for the state of Montana and all of the fans of Cat-Griz. I hope we can make this a tradition in the future.”
The Montana State women's tennis team will open its 2018 home season when it hosts rival Montana on Friday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center. The Cat-Griz match will not be the Big Sky Conference or Brawl of the Wild counter.
"I am excited for our fans and support staff that we get to play the Griz home and away this year," said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. "It is great for the state of Montana and all of the fans of Cat-Griz. I hope we can make this a tradition in the future."
Montana State (1-2), who was picked third in the Big Sky Preseason Coaches' poll, will face Seattle U on Sunday at 10 a.m. Seattle U and Montana will meet on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
"We have worked together to try a pod format where we bring three teams to one location," Reeves said. "We will do the same at Montana in early March. With safety concerns of our weather, it will reduce the risk of extra travel for one team. We are hopeful that it will allow us to attract some better teams to play us at home."
Guiding the Cats this weekend will be sophomore transfer Laura Mary and senior Angelina Philippova. The duo played at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, on the opening weekend in Washington. Reeves has filled the remainder of the ladder with one sophomore and five freshmen.
"We have had a couple weeks to grow as a team since opening up with a couple very good teams," Reeves said. "Every week that we have together, as a team, is important because we are so young and inexperienced with dual match play. Most importantly we need to continue to grow, learn and strive to make the right decisions. The more we work with purpose and focus the quicker we develop together as a team."
