All 14 players contributed to its record-breaking 144-59 win over the Northwest Indian College Eagles on Saturday.
BOZEMAN, Mont. – For the second-straight season, the Montana State men's basketball team broke its single-game scoring record with its 144-59 win over the visiting Northwest Indian College Eagles on Saturday.
The Bobcats' (7-5) 144 points against the Eagles (3-14) broke the previous record, which was a 124-point night against SAGU American Indian College on Dec. 22, 2021. MSU also made 53 field goals — including 23 threes — and shot 67.1% from the floor, all of which rank second-all time.
"It was good to get everyone time on the court tonight. That was the main thing tonight," Montana State head coach Danny Sprinkle told Bobcat Sports Radio Network. "I respect Northwest Indian College for coming and playing us tonight. They were at the University of Idaho last night, so I know the trip had to be hard on them and I appreciate them for coming."
Jubrile Belo (20 points, 10 rebounds) and Great Osobor (a career-high 23 points, 11 rebounds) had double-doubles to lead the Bobcats. RaeQuan Battle (15 points on 5-for-5 shooting), Luca Colceag (12 points), Jed Miller (12 points) and Alex Germer (10 points) all finished in double-figures for the Bobcats. As a team, the Bobcats only turned the ball over eight times while forcing 17 Eagles turnovers.
"The one thing I wanted from us tonight was I wanted us to not be sloppy," Sprinkle said. "I told the guys that we wanted to commit no more than eight turnovers, and we were right at eight. Sometimes in these games, it's easy to be sloppy and take bad shots, but I thought our guys took great shots tonight."
The Eagles took an early lead off a Trazil Lane steal and score, yet MSU responded with back-to-back dunks from Jubrile Belo and never looked back. Great Osobor checked in and threw down an array of impressive dunks, capping off his half with a windmill dunk off a full-court pass from Sam Lecholat. Robert Ford III banked in a deep three-pointer at the buzzer to give MSU a 65-26 lead.
MSU came out of the locker room at halftime on fire. Nick Gazelas, Sam Lecholat and RaeQuan Battle hit threes before the first media timeout to take a 76-30 lead. Minutes later, the Bobcats eclipsed 100 points for the second time this season when Caleb Fuller backed down his man and made a layup with 12:14 to go in the second half.
With the game in hand, the reserves took over for the remainder of the second half. Colceag checked in and quickly made his first of four shots from beyond the arc, Jed Miller caught fire by nailing several deep threes, then Alex Germer reached double-figures for the second time this season. Colceag gave MSU the single-game scoring record on a three-pointer with 3:55 to go, then the team scored 17 points down the stretch to close the book on the 144-59 win.
Northwest Indian College was led by Trazil Lane's 28 points on 9-for-21 shooting.
The Bobcats travel to #9 Arizona next Tuesday, Dec. 20, which will be televised on the Pac-12 Network at 6:30 p.m. MT. After that game, Big Sky Conference play begins with a two-game homestand against Idaho on Dec. 29, then a New Year's Eve matchup against Eastern Washington on Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. All conference games will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
Season tickets and single-game tickets for all remaining home games can be found on msubobcats.info/tickets.
