The Montana State women's tennis team closes out its regular season schedule hosting Montana, Saturday, April 20 at 10 a.m. in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
Montana State (13-5, 4-3) is on a current three-match winning streak. They have also captured seven of their last eight matches since the beginning of March.
The Bobcats are led by junior Marta Garcia-Reboredo, who plays at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Garcia-Reboredo is 11-7 overall in singles action and is 8-2 in her last ten outings. In doubles, she teams with freshman Hudson Hawkins where the duo is 12-6 overall and 6-1 in Big Sky Conference action.
One of the youngest teams in the league, the Bobcats have at times featured four freshmen in their six-person ladder. Paula Dougherty, a native of Raleigh, N.C., has anchored the No. 2 spot with a 5-2 league mark and has won her last three matches. Bozeman product Meg McCarty is also 5-2 playing at the No. 3 position. Hawkins has thrived at the No. 6 spot in the ladder and is 4-0 in Big Sky action. The Las Vegas native has won her last six consecutive outings.
Montana enters Saturday's contest 7-11 overall and 5-2 in league play. Sophomore Hailey Murphy is currently 7-0 at No. 1 singles in Big Sky action and 15-3 overall.
"We're looking forward to another Cat-Griz battle," said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn. "We're focusing on the same things we have been focusing on all season, and we're glad to have one last opportunity to play at home."
Saturday also serves as Senior Day with the Bobcat celebrating the careers of Jazmin Lerman and Felicia Jayasaputra. Lerman is 7-7 overall and has captured her last two matches at No. 4 singles. Jayasaputra returned to the Bobcat singles ladder last week against Weber State and notched a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Li Yang Ping An.
"Jazmin and Felicia have made an impact on our program," Woodburn said. "They personify what we want all of our athletes to be both on and off the court."
MSU, who is having their best season since the 2017 campaign, has already clinched a berth in the Big Sky Tournament, April 25-27 in Phoenix, Ariz. The top six teams advanced to the league's postseason dance. A UM victory gives the Grizzlies a share of the regular season BSC title.
