MSU returns from Christmas break with non-league tilt
After a week away, the Montana State men's basketball team didn't have gifts or Holiday treats on its mind when practice resumed this week.
It was thinking of a re-boot.
“We want to throw away the first half of the season even though there we played two conference games,” said senior guard Christian Moon, who made his season debut in the team's final game of the first semester. “We want to get back to practice and get re-focused.”
After playing two games in the last 22 days, the Bobcats get what amounts to a re-start Saturday at 7 pm in Worthington Arena, hosting Northwest Indian College. Bobcat coach Brad Huse said Saturday's game is more about MSU than its opponent, and the biggest issue is getting back on the court. “It was a long break, a little longer than typical,” Huse said. “Hopefully we got our batteries re-charged and are ready to go.”
MSU's top priority before jumping into Big Sky play with a home weekend on January 3 and 5, Huse said, is easy to identify. ““We need to work on being more consistent,” Huse said. “That's been a big issue for us. We play well in stretches, but have long periods of time where we give up too many buckets or struggle to score. We need to be more consistent in our execution and more efficient offensively.”
After Saturday's contest, the Bobcats begin the heart of their Big Sky schedule hosting Portland State on January 3 and Eastern Washington on January 5.
